Starting Globadev

It is December 2018. I’m about to register my first enterprise: Globadev. It’s actually a bit early to create this website and the first webshop, but I’m just too curious. It’s been a long time since I last worked with WordPress and I really need to brush up my skills before this endeavor becomes serious! Until now I’ve written a business plan and done a lot of research. Now it’s time for action, because as an entrepreneur, you need to get your hands dirty to learn the business. So just doint is kind of doing research into the feasibility of what I’ve concocted.

So that first businessplan was a lot of work to write. And even though it’s hardly finished, it’s already outdated too! It really needs an update, but I’m afraid that I could get stuck in that plan if I spend too much time on it. To make the plan and calculate through forecasts, I’ve had to make assumptions. Those assumptions I’m now verifying step by step. What I’ve learnt until now is that there are a million things you need to think of when you want to start your own enterprise! But that also makes the process fun and interesting.

I have the luxury of starting my company while I’m still in a job. But that also has drawbacks. At this moment I have little time for example, to do the necessary research or to have appointments. Next year I will work parttime,  so I’ll have more time for this enterprise! That I dare to put all of this online already, is because I strongly believe in the accountability that results from saying things out loud. That, and my employer knows of my plans.

You cannot change your past – it’s part of you. So I’ll just be open about it. Transparency is one of the pillars of my enterprise anyway. Plus, you can know a lot about me just by Googling me: I leave a lot of traces.

My name is Cheryl Van Kempen and until now I worked in the geosciences. In this blog I will tell you what made me decide to start a retail/ecommerce business. I invite you to follow me throughout my journey of starting and running my business and hopefully becoming really succesful. I share my experiences so you can learn from them and can benefit from them in your own endeavors.
